Ancillary task: Magazine advertisement

Whilst still in the production of the Paramore music video, I decided to start the production of one of my andcillary task products; magazine advertisement for the album. I produced the advertisement in Adobe Photoshop which gave me full creative control in the layout.

First draft
Here is the first draft in which I created, however when I showed it to my peers, it was pointed out to me that the orientation of the product wasn't conventional to the media text. Magazine advertisements are normally portrait especially when advertising albums, therefore this lead me to my second draft below.
Second draft

I amended the orientation of my product to portrait which conformed to common conventions of magazine advertisements. I then added the logos of the social networking pages to make the pages more noticeable.
Third Draft

This is my final version for my magazine advertisment.

Shots of filming

Here are some of the shots that we took on our final band shoot of the band setting up and preparing to perform for the music video. These photographs were taken on my iPhone just to doccument the shoot.

We felt that the location for the final music narrative fitted ideally with the genre of our song choice. The dirtiness, industrial feel made it an ideal location to shoot our band shots in which will come across visually really appealing to our audience in the final edit. We are excited to edit the shots that we have produced!

Photography from final band filming

As well as filming for the band shots we required for our music video, we decided to utilise the location and equipment we had, as well as being all of us being at the same place at the same time and take photos which could be used for our ancillary tasks.

I have edited some of the photos in Adobe Photoshop just to try out some different techniques and effects that could be used in my ancillary products. Utilising the space at the same time as we shot our band shots saved us time, and allowed us to use the same location, props, light setup and costumes as the band shots which further imporved the consistancy throughout the media products.

Planning: Location scouting

As we had finalised the finer details of our music video narrative and band shots, we started to prepare what we needed to do for the shoot of our band shots. We explored two locations on our school grounds, which were in a derelict garden in the back of our school and the underground boiler room in which was currently out of use. Below are some of the photos that we took to show the potential locations we could choose for the change in idea for band shots as our previous location didn't work.
1. Derelict garden

2. Boiler room

We saw potential in both locations however, with the unpredictable weather at this time, we felt it would be safer to go with the boiler room. Yet that comes with complications, as there is minimal space for instruments and lighting, however the location and overall mise-en-scene of the location would come across and translate to our targeted audience perfectly. We have now decided to shoot in the boiler room, which is confirmed and approved by our school teachers.
